Why it Matters and How it’s the Future
Sitting in the mountains in upstate NY, I’m watching the community around me nestled into a sky tipi in the woods, give all they have over to the divine ayahuasca, living the life I thought was so important to me – Living in ceremony 24/7 with others.
Imagine my surprise when I received the message to refrain from utilizing psychedelics for three months and attend every ceremony I was invited to. At the time, I was steeped in the community where every weekend was spent in a ceremony.
I spent the rest of the evening observing as usual, listening, and preparing for my vision quest the next day. After a beautiful sweat lodge in the morning, I set out to put myself on the mountain. Prayer flags around my space, ready to listen.
Days into no food and water, deep into the night, the moon shone overhead, dappling through to the forest floor, and a loud animal song pierced through the crisp summer air. I looked into the trees and saw a herd of deer led by a large stag walking through the woods. It felt right out of a movie, moonlight sparkling off their coats and antlers.
I sat in awe as the procession continued, unfazed by my presence. I began to hear the purpose of my life in the hooves, walking almost silently through the forest floor. Each step showed me how herbalism was the key to integrating back into Earth.
It’s beyond psychedelic integration, trauma training, addiction, etc. It’s about the importance of this ancient technology to deepen our connection with the planet we live on, the cosmos, and our birthrights. Your role in the world matters so much that most ancient beings want to see it come through in a way that is in harmony with Earth.
Psychedelic herbalism was formed from this experience over the past 7 years as I pioneered the landscape of psychedelic integration in my practice of blending clinical herbalism with psychedelics. Deep down, it makes sense that plant medicine includes all plants.
I’ve toyed with my thoughts around all the words to describe my work. Words have power, and at the same time, they don’t matter as much as the intention. I wanted plant medicine integration to be my flow for so long, but I have to live in the times we’re in and notice that people understand psychedelics. But do you know the word?
Psychedelic has the root word Psyche which is about the mind, “animating spirit, the human spirit or mind,” “the invisible animating principle or entity which occupies and directs the physical body.”
In another way of thinking about it, when you are focusing on integrating your psychedelic experiences, you’re anchoring your spirit and soul into this world.
Herbs and herbalism are the paths you embark upon when you enter psychedelic experiences and beyond. They are in the family of the entheogenic plants.
In cultures steeped in the healing lineages of psychedelics, they understand that herbs are part of the process; the psychedelic experience is meant for great healing, communication with that beyond, and creating an opening for spirit to flow into the soul. The anchor is the herbs that support the changes.
Psychedelic herbalism is the practice of blending clinical herbalism with the understanding of psychedelic journeys, the life of a person who chooses to open themselves to the current lifestyle of psychedelics.
Cultivating a life connected with herbs is the way to live a full-on psychedelic lifestyle. The desire for healing has and always will be steeped in the total capacity of the plant realm, not in a select few plants that have created a ripple in the consciousness.
The wholistic version of the herbal world, which includes the mushroom kingdom, is to communicate with other sentient beings on the planet. They are here with wisdom and have a way of spreading themselves to provide their knowledge. When humans continue to wake to the knowledge, we benefit from their information, allowing ourselves to be made of the ancient DNA and information they contain.
This doesn’t end or begin with psychedelics; it’s all sentient beings on Earth, including you. Therefore, connecting with Earth beings provides you with the information to create a world entirely of harmony.
Therefore, living a psychedelic life isn’t a choice; it’s a birthright.
