The Art of Letting Go

Steps to Live Comfortably Uncomfortable

Watching the snow blanket the mountaintops, the earth, and the landscape of my home, I wake up early to watch the sunrise and sparkle along the landscape.

Have you ever tried to capture the sparkle of snow or frost-reflecting rainbows?

It can be lost in translation without the photography and editing skills to show this.

Our timing in life can be similar. You may feel too early or late but trust that you are on time. Two weeks ago, I spoke about how nature is never forced, and timing becomes essential.

You learn from nature how to perfect timing.

Right before the snow returned to New Mexico, there was beautiful spring weather, and I wanted to go out and give all the budding plants clips so their winter coats could be discarded and join the ever-decomposing mulch around them to nourish the soil. However, I know there are more winter days ahead.

Therefore, to give my budding plants the best chance of survival, I’m leaving them with their old winter coats for a moment longer.

I’ve been feeling similar. I want to shed my old winter coat, shed all who I am and was, and let go of so much, and yet I realize that it comes as it should. The timing is up to Nature.

Yesterday, when I looked at my budding plants, I noticed that new leaves sprouted up higher and pushed away portions of their old winter coats where they knew it was time to let go, and in other places, they still hold on.

Where in your life are you pushing out the old? Where are you holding on? Are you trusting divine timing?

I know that trusting the divine timing can be infuriating, frustrating, bleak, and challenging.

Trust me, I’ve been there, I am there, and I consistently work on finding the proper way to let go.

What is the Art of Letting Go?

  • Trust in your process – don’t allow others to dictate when, where, how, and why you let go.
  • Find an Herbal Ally—When it’s time for me to let go, depending on what I’m letting go of, I reach for an herbal ally to support the process.
  • Have a guide or mentor – You hear about it all the time, how people create leaps and bounds by having a trusted mentor or guide who is steps ahead of where you want to go. I’ve moved quicker through letting go thanks to my mentors and guides, who are better at taking no bullshit from life.
  • Forgive yourself —  You make mistakes, and you’ll continue to make mistakes. You will wish it was different all the time. Surrender to forgiveness and trust that you’re doing it right, even when it feels uncomfortable.
  • Understand the difference between being uncomfortable and not trusting yourself. When you want your life to change, the old and the new become uncomfortable because you haven’t been there before. You must be willing to step into what is uncomfortable.

This is only the beginning and what I find to be some of the most critical steps.

One of my current psychedelic integration clients brought up how grateful they are to work with me to help guide them through what is uncomfortable. To realize that what is seemingly being taken away in her life is a blessing, to trust that what is being removed is to her benefit so she can step out of her comfort zone and make room for the next group of people in her life that support her new way of walking the world. Beyond all of it are the herbal allies supporting her and allowing her to trust herself because she is learning how each herb works with her, strengthening her intuition and trust while supporting her mental health in a time of significant change.
