Awaken the New Year
Disruptive Rituals for Transformation with Plants & Psychedelics
The end of one year and the beginning of another is not just a passing of time; it is a portal—a liminal space where intentions carry weight, and the whispers of your subconscious emerge from the shadows. For leaders, disruptors, and seekers, this isn’t just a chance to reset—it’s an invitation to reawaken.
What follows is not a checklist but an initiation: a New Year’s ritual rooted in nature, fueled by the wisdom of herbs, and designed to help you partner with your subconscious mind for profound clarity.
Step 1: The Water’s Mirror—Reflection and Release
Water carries memory, and in it, we see ourselves.
Each year, during the Thanksgiving season, I embark on a water fast—not for deprivation but for revelation. As the days pass, water becomes my teacher—cleansing the body, quieting the mind, and revealing what lies hidden in the subconscious.
This isn’t simply about purging or letting go; it’s about facing the questions my soul has been asking all year:
- What dreams have I postponed, and why?
- Where have I sabotaged myself out of fear or doubt?
- What parts of my life no longer serve the vision I hold for myself?
I come out of the fast every year with new lessons and a depth of understanding of what I want out of life with more clarity.
How You Can Practice:
- Incorporate water as a conscious element in your ritual: drink herbal infusions, take ritualist baths, or even sit by a body of water to reflect.
- Before drinking water or tea, speak beautiful thoughts, words, and messages to align its crystalline structure with what you want to bring into your life.
- Use herbs like Burdock Root or Nettles to support physical and energetic detoxification. Their lessons teach us to dig deep, pull out stagnation, and make space for the new.
- Journal about the questions above.
Water reminds us that beautiful creation comes after and during a major release. Let this step be your cleansing act—a preparation for the fertile ground ahead.
Step 2: The Herb’s Whisper—Working with Subtle Allies
Plants are not only medicine; they are mirrors, showing us who we can become.
Herbs are more than remedies; they are teachers. In moments of transition, they offer profound wisdom if we are willing to listen. My yearly ritual always includes herbs like Calendula—an herb that goes where the sun doesn’t shine to assist with gentle cleansing of the hidden—to help me see beyond my perceived limitations.
Over the years, as my fast has evolved, I have incorporated flower essences into the mix and herbal powders.
Top Mostly Safe Herbal Allies for You:
- Holy Basil: For mental clarity and focus, to remember your purpose.
- Calendula: To support emotional clarity, cleanse the digestive and lymphatic systems, and remove energetic fog.
- Lemon Balm: A gentle guide for calming overactive thoughts and reconnecting with joy.
Working with herbs can be implemented in your New Year beginning now! You don’t have to wait. It’s not only about their physical benefits. It’s about creating a dialogue with the plant’s spirit—asking it to guide you as you chart your path forward.
How to Practice:
- Brew an infusion of one herb that resonates deeply with your current state of being.
- Begin to introduce new herbs into your life.
- Sit with the tea in silence, focusing on its aroma, flavor, and energy. Ask: What do you have to teach me? Write down the insights that come through.
Becoming more aware of the gift of plant medicine in all its forms, you begin to integrate more of the subtle messages that surround you all the time. Be receptive and an observer. You don’t have to change everything to see more possibilities for growth.
Step 3: The Subconscious Blueprint—Aligning Inner Vision
The subconscious mind is not your enemy—it is the keeper of your dreams, waiting for you to unlock its vault.
Leadership begins in the unseen. The subconscious mind, shaped by patterns, fears, and past experiences, can serve as your greatest ally or your biggest roadblock.
As disruptors and innovators, you don’t want to act from autopilot. This season is your chance to rewrite the script. Begin by identifying the subconscious beliefs that hold you back:
- Where am I playing small in my leadership or creativity?
- What fears keep me from fully stepping into my vision?
- Which habits do I carry that reflect outdated narratives?
How to Practice:
- Pair journaling the above questions with music that makes you feel most alive. Set an intention to explore your subconscious beliefs.
- Use herbs like Mugwort or Blue Lotus to deepen your dream work. These allies open portals to subconscious exploration, helping you identify and clear hidden blocks.
- Create a mantra to reprogram your mind. For example: “I trust my subconscious to know the unfolding of my vision. I act boldly and align with my higher self.”
- Read or listen to the book The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. for insights on how to understand the subsconcious.
- Write down limiting beliefs and “bad thoughts” you have about yourself throughout the day. Once you have an ongoing list, decide what thoughts you want to shift and change it.
Observing the thoughts that I say to myself is wild! I notice that I talk bad to myself more frequently now that I observe. I’ve spent the last 4 months rewriting my subconscious thoughts and I have to say, I am more happy, more aligned, and I know what I want.
I know that I want to be myself even more authentically in my expression, in the way I engage here in my newsletters/blog, and in how I maintain the connections I am forming not only in my business but also in my personal life.
The shift is paramount, and I am so grateful that I am making shifts to my subconscious each and every day while drinking my favorite herbs.
I know now that my audience and people who want to be in my world enjoy story time; they enjoy that I have a lot to say and are here for the long format, rather than short content that is only the surface level. I don’t do surface, I do deep.
Step 4: Ritual as Routine—Anchoring Transformation
A leader without ritual is like a seed without soil.
Ritual is not just a practice; it is the architecture of your growth. As a disruptor, you must anchor your vision in daily actions that reflect your most profound truths. This is why I developed Ritual as Routine—to help leaders like you build practices that sustain transformation.
A morning spent sipping herbal tea with intention, an evening walk where you reflect on the day’s wins, a weekly ritual that honors your progress—these are not small acts; they are the threads that weave your dreams into reality.
How to Practice:
- Commit to one ritual this New Year that connects you to your vision.
- Make it simple yet sacred: light a candle, work with flower essences, or sit in silence as you hold your intention.
- Write your rituals down and treat them as your anchor points for the year.
More importantly, purchase the Ritual As Routine workshop for a special price for reading this far! Instead of $55, I’m offering the course for $8 because I believe in its power that much. Step 5: Gratitude as Power—Honoring What Is
Nothing new can grow without honoring the foundation beneath it.
The astrology during December, with so many retrogrades, reminds us that this is not a time for chasing new beginnings. It is a season of honoring what already exists—your strengths, your accomplishments, and the seeds you have planted in previous years.
Even though this is the current astrological weather, this is a timeless concept. Honor where you are, where you’ve come from, and the future is littered with more gifts because you’re present to gratitude.
Gratitude is not passive; it is an act of power. When you thank the present, you align yourself with the energy of abundance, making space for the future.
How to Practice:
- Write a letter to yourself detailing all you accomplished this year. Read it aloud, letting the words anchor into your heart.
Every time I create this list of only my current achievements of the year, I’m astounded by how much I’ve accomplished. Its’ so easy for you to forget, not celebrate, or miss out on all you’ve done when the to-do list never ends.
Remember that there is always something to do tomorrow; have gratitude for today.
